Working together is how we are going to change the world!
When I started The Mother Side I had a vision of creating a global support network and community for Mums. It was a HUGE vision and I didn’t know how I was going to do it, but I knew it needed to be done. Because there was and still is not enough support out there for women as they embark on the biggest journey of their lives: the journey from pregnancy to parenthood and beyond.
I had learned through my work as a counsellor and antenatal teacher, as well as my own experience of becoming a mum for the first time, that NOTHING can prepare you for how intense, how overwhelming, how scary and how much of an emotional roller-coaster this journey to The Mother Side can be. And we are often expected to do it with very little emotional support.
No wonder Mums everywhere are feeling isolated.
No wonder so many Mums are feeling anxious, depressed and overwhelmed.
We were not supposed to be raising babies by ourselves. We all need a support network, a village, a community. We all need a safe place to cry, a shoulder to snot on and we need empathy from others who ‘get it’.
The Mother Side started with a free Mums meet up in my home town of Saffron Walden. Then I took over as admin for an online pregnancy support group with just over 100 members. I invited other perinatal and parenting professionals to collaborate with us by joining the local and online groups to share their experience and their knowledge, and together we offered support to other Mums and Mums-to-be.
Our local meet up has now evolved into a network of meet ups in various locations across the UK, hosted by a team of coordinators who are all passionate about supporting Mums and Mums-to-be.
Our online support group now has over 1400 members and has become a collaborative community of Mums and professionals – all there to support each other.
We have delivered over 40 free online workshops in the group and we have had guest speakers delivering free workshops at our local meet ups on all things pregnancy, birth and parenthood.
We also now have an online gift shop which supports Mums who are small independent business owners and stocks gifts ONLY for Mums and Mums-to-be.
We have an online directory which is bringing all the support services for Mums together in one place to make them easy to find.
We have a community blog where everyone is able to share their stories about motherhood – and we have lots more!
I couldn’t possibly have achieved all of this on my own. The Mother Side would not be what it is now if it wasn’t for everyone who has supported us and collaborated with us. I don’t ever take that for granted. Which is why I do everything I can to help to support the businesses and the individuals that work with us by helping them to promote their services and their businesses.
The Mother Side started with a vision. And by collaborating with other perinatal and parenting professionals who shared my vision, together we have created something which is actually making a difference to Mums everywhere.
The Mother Side is everything I was looking for as a first time Mum-to-be and more. It is a global support network and a community for Mums and professionals all working together to support each other. And the doors are open to everyone who wants to be a part of it. Because we don’t believe in competition. We believe in collaboration.
The world is a big old place and we cannot and do not want to change it on our own. We want to change it with a team of other world changers by our side!
Are you one of them? If so, come and join us!
For just £3 per month you can join The Mother Side Support Network, a directory which we have created to bring ALL the perinatal and parenting support services around the world together in one place – making it easy for Mums and families everywhere to find them.
As well as listing your business in our directory and being able to shout about what you do from our various platforms, you will also get access to The Support Network Members Group. This is a group for those who LOVE to collaborate, the world changers, the thought leaders, the innovators, the like-minded professionals with a shared vision: to improve support services around the world for Mums and families.
But it is also a support group for professionals. Because being self-employed and doing the work that we do can feel very lonely and isolating. Starting out in business for the first time can feel daunting and overwhelming.
As well as networking and collaborating with other professionals around the world, you can also seek support, offload, ask questions, share your challenges and learn from all the amazing guest speakers that we are lining up for you.
The Support Network Members Group is going to become everything the main Mother Side group is for Mums – but for perinatal and parenting professionals. We are excited about all the amazing collaborations that are just waiting to happen!
